Choctaws Fall in Overtime to Talladega, 88-84

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought overtime battle with Talladega College, 88-84, on Monday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

The Choctaws fell to 1-1 on the season, while the Tornadoes are 5-1.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED

- The Choctaws trailed by as many as nine points on three different occasions in the first half, but a 13-5 run to close the half, capped by a three-pointer from junior Tre Jenkins in the final seconds, gave MC a 35-34 lead at the break.
- Junior Brandon Boston scored the first four points of the second half to give the Choctaws a 39-35 lead with just over 18 minutes remaining in regulation.
- The Tornadoes would battle back, and with 8:05 to go, a layup by Josh Burnett would push the Talladega lead out to 66-59.
- The Choctaws would respond with a 17-4 run over the next five minutes and would have their largest lead of the night at 76-70 with 2:55 remaining after a jumper from Boston.
- Talladega scored the next five points, but Boston hit a free-throw line jumper with 50 seconds remaining, and MC held a 78-75 lead.
- Da'Jon Streeter, who scored a game-high 32 points, came up with a big three-pointer from the corner that tied the game at 78-78 with 30 seconds to go.
- The final three-pointer at the buzzer came up just short for the Choctaws and the game went into overtime.
- Senior Donovan Ham scored the first point of overtime with a free throw, but the Tornadoes would score the next 10 and pull away for the victory.
 

KEY STATS

- The Choctaws shot 43% (29-of-68) from the field and 84% (21-of-25) from the free throw line but went just 5-of-18 (28%) from the three-point line.
- The Tornadoes shot 45% (28-of-62) from the floor and went 13-of-29 (45%) from long range.
- Boston led the Choctaws with 22 points, going 9-of-22 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free throw line, while pulling down a team-high eight rebounds.
- Ham added 21 points and eight boards himself, also leading the way with five assists for the Choctaws.
- Dyllan Taylor (16 pts) and Tre Jenkins (12 pts) each had four assists on the night.
- Streeter went 9-of-15 from the field and 6-of-11 from the three-point line on his way to 32 points.
- Dondre Alexander pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to go with 13 points for the Tornadoes.
 

NEXT UP

- The Choctaws will be back in action on Wednesday night when they travel to face #11 Auburn at 7:00 p.m. for an exhibition contest.
- They will be back in A.E. Wood Coliseum on Saturday when they will welcome Henderson State to Clinton for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
