Lady Choctaws Victorious on Senior Day Against Spring Hill

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team finished the 2018 regular season this Saturday afternoon with a Senior Day victory over the Spring Hill Badgers in Gulf South Conference play by a score of 3-0.
 
The Lady Choctaws will finish the regular season 14-2-0 overall and 12-1 in GSC play.

The Badgers will finish the regular season 1-14-1 overall and 1-11-1 in GSC play.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- It didn't take the Lady Choctaws long to get the scoring going on this Senior Day afternoon when in the 2nd minute Peace Gill found Lauren Dodge who played it into the box where Lauren Smith was able to put it in the net and gave MC a 1-0 lead.
- Smith would strike again in the 24th minute off of a free kick played in by Samantha Carson which found Smith who headed it in making it 2-0.
- The Lady Choctaws would score the final goal of the match in the 36th minute when Laruen Kate Carter's free kick found Dani Avelar in the box who put it in giving the match it's final of 3-0.
 

KEY STATS
- The nine seniors who were honored before the match were Andrea McDonald, Samantha Carson, Peace Gill, Gaylynn Cooper, Laruen Dodge, Julie Reid, Cara Benedict, Laruen Smith and Daisy Rodgers.
- The Lady Choctaws finished the season 12-1 in GSC which placed them 2nd in the final GSC standings.
- Lauren Smith's two goals on the day made her the leading goal scorer on the year with seven in 2018.
 

NEXT UP
- The Lady Choctaws will start post-season on "Super Tuesday" October 30th at Robert P. Longabaugh Field against Montevallo in the first round of the GSC post-season tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 P.M.  
 

Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2018-19 academic year.
