CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team returns to Gulf South Conference action this weekend as it travels to Auburn University at Montgomery and 19th-ranked University of West Florida. Match time on Friday, Oct. 26 at AUM is set for 6 p.m. First serve against the nationally-ranked Argonauts on Saturday, Oct. 27 is slated for 3 p.m.
AUBURN MONTGOMERY SERIES: Mississippi College looks to continue its undefeated streak against Auburn Montgomery as the Choctaws have claimed the only two meetings in the series, including a sweep of the Warhawks in Clinton earlier this season.
BREAKING DOWN THE WARHAWKS: AUM enters the weekend on an 11-game losing streak. The Warhawks are led by Brianna Garvin with 194 kills. Sommer Rhea sits second on the team in kills with 180. Carly Smart, who leads the team in assists, paces the squad in digs with 225 while Garvin defends the frontline of the defense with 76 blocks.
WEST FLORIDA SERIES: Mississippi College looks for its first win in the series against West Florida. The Argonauts have taken all three meetings between the two schools
BREAKING DOWN THE ARGONAUTS: West Florida snapped a three-game slide from the South Region Crossover with a straight sets win over West Georgia on Tuesday evening. The Argos have a trio of players with 200-plus kills. Jordyn Poppen has a team-best 278 kills on the year followed by Nadine Williams (252) and Makila York (210). Makenzie Chrisman sits just outside the group with 180. Logan Kael leads the team with 380 digs while Chrisman paces the team with 112 blocks.
LAURENDINE SEVENTH NATIONALLY in TRIPLE-DOUBLES: Freshman Lexie Laurendine ranks seventh in NCAA Division II Volleyball in triple-doubles this season. Laurendine registered her third triple-double on Oct. 20 against Spring Hill College with 10 kills, 21 assists and 10 digs. She is the only player in the Gulf South Conference with a triple-double this season and the only player in MC history with multiple triple-doubles. Former Choctaw Amanda Torres recorded the program's first in a five-set win over Nova Southeastern last season.
FROST CRACKS TOP 10 IN BLOCKS: With nine total blocks at the NCAA South Region Crossover, sophomore Autumn Frost moved into the top 10 in program history in block assists with 97. The Largo, Fla., native also sits in the top 10 in total blocks in a season and is fifth in block assists. Frost ranks seventh in the GSC this season in total blocks.
MAYS AMONG CAREER KILLS LEADERS: Redshirt junior Shelby Grace Mays placed her name among the top 10 in career kills in Mississippi College history. Mays ranks eighth in program history with 535 and is 33 from catching Ashton King in seventh.
BROWN IN THE RECORD BOOK: Senior Jill Brown etched her name in the Mississippi College record book as the Elkhart, Ind., native recorded her 745th career dig and sits eighth in school history. She's 14 digs from moving into the top five. Brown's 472 digs this season ranks fourth in a single season.
PLATT SETS SIGHTS ON SINGLE-SEASON KILLS MARK: Freshman Kendall Platt moved to third in single-season kills with 306. Liz Mullin (1994) holds the single-season kill record with 410 while Chandra Landry (1996) is second with 372.
BOROS MOVES ONTO SINGLE-SEASON KILLS LIST: Freshman Jamie Boros moved to fifth in single-season kills with 271. Boros is 25 kills from moving to fourth on the list. Liz Mullen (1994) holds the single-season kill record with 410 while Chandra Landry (1996) is second with 372. Teammate Kendall Platt sits third with 306.
Mississippi College is a private Christian university located in Clinton, Mississippi with an enrollment of over 5,000 students. MC recently finished their transition process back to NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference and will be competing for conference and national championships in the 2018-19 academic year.
