HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws were the aggressor in the first half of play firing off seven shots but came up empty as the score remained 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.
- In the second half, the Lady Choctaws were able to break the game open in the 65
th minute when
Liza Wise stepped up and put in a penalty kick opportunity and gave MC a 1-0 lead.
- Just when it seemed that MC was going to hold on to the 1-0 lead for the victory, a miscommunication error by the Lady Choctaw defense opened the door for the Warhawks' star player Rudy Mendez to score and tie the match at 1-1 in the 75
th minute.
- At the end of regulation, the score was still tied up at 1-1 so the match headed to overtime. After the first overtime period, neither team was able to end the match so it continued to a second overtime period. It didn't take the Lady Choctaws long to finish off the Warhawks in double OT as
Marisa Saunders was able to find
Katie Taylor who scored the golden goal ending the match and giving MC the 2-1 victory in the 103
rd minute of play.
