CLINTON. Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team got their ninth victory in a row and remained perfect in Gulf South Conference play this season with a 1-0 win over the University of West Georgia this afternoon.
The Lady Choctaws will improve to 10-1-0 overall and 8-0 in GSC play.Â
The Wolves will fall to 4-7-2 overall and 4-4 in GSC play.Â

 HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team was able to score in the first half of play. The Lady Choctaws were the more aggressive team in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Wolves 10 to 1 and four of those ten shots were on goal.
- The turning point in the match happened in the 70
th minute when West Georgia's Sadie Prince was able to get behind the Lady Choctaw back line and scored what appeared to be a potential game winner but Prince was called offside on the play.
- Â The Lady Choctaws took the momentum for the call and were able to finally crack the UWG defense. In the 83
rd minute on a corner kick opportunity,
Lauren Smith struck a deflected ball into the back of the net giving MC a 1-0 lead and the victory over the Wolves.

KEY STATS
-Â The Lady Choctaws were able to control the ball for the majority of the match, but were unable to convert on any offensive opportunities until Smith's goal. MC had 29 shots in the match with nine of those being on goal.
- The defense had another strong performance only allowing four shots with two of the four being on goal and
Gabby Kayser posted her fifth shutout of the year and increased the team's total of shutouts to seven.
- The victory was the ninth in a row for the Lady Choctaws and that ties the second longest win streak in program history. The 2018 squad is just two more wins away from tying the all-time win streak mark that was set back in 2003. Â

- The Lady Choctaws will be back at Robert P. Longabaugh Field this Sunday October 14 in GSC action as they host Valdosta State at 1:00 P.M.
