Choctaws Drop Road Game at #12 West Florida, 82-70

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought road contest to #12 West Florida on Sunday afternoon, 82-70, at the UWF Field House.

The Choctaws had a four-game winning streak snapped a fell to 7-6 with a 4-4 mark in the Gulf South Conference, while the Argos improved to 13-1 and 5-1 in league play.
 

TURNING POINT
- With 14:47 remaining in the game, a bucket by senior Antonio Johnson cut what was once a 16-point deficit down to just 50-46. The Argonauts answered with a 14-4 run and would not lead by less than 12 points the rest of the way.
 

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws, who played without their leading scorer in senior Stacey Mack, would jump out to a 7-2 lead following the first of five three-pointers from senior Otis Harvey.
- The Argos would use a 26-6 run in the first half to grab a 32-16 advantage with 5:30 remaining in the first 20 minutes.
- Harvey would almost single-handedly keep MC in the game, knocking down four three-pointers over the final four minutes to cut the halftime lead down to 42-33.
- In the second half, the Choctaws would hang around and Johnson's basket with 14:47 to go cut the lead down to just four.
- The Argos responded and would push the lead out to as many as 19 points with 5:52 remaining at 72-53.
 

KEY STATS
- The Choctaws shot 42% (26-of-62) from the field and went 12-of-24 from the three-point line.
- Senior Donovan Ham scored a team-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and three steals.
- Harvey scored 17, while sophomore Brandon Boston was also in double-figures with 15 and a team-high nine rebounds.
- Johnson scored eight points with a game-high eight assists.
- The Argos shot just 40% (31-of-78) from the floor but scored 36 points in the paint to grab the home victory.
- DJ Thorpe scored a team-high 15 points, while Rashaan Benson had 14.
- Moter Deng had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Marvin Jones was also in double-figures with 11 points.
 

NEXT UP
- The Choctaws will stay on the road to face Valdosta State on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. (Central).
