Women's Basketball Preview: Auburn Montgomery, West Georgia

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood this weekend for Gulf South Conference action. The action begins on Thursday, Feb. 1 against Auburn University at Montgomery and welcomes the University of West Georgia on Saturday, Feb. 3. Tip-off against AUM is set for 5:30 p.m. while tip against UWG is slated for 2 p.m.

THE SERIES
•    Mississippi College and Auburn Montgomery meet for the second time in series history on Thursday. AUM claimed the only meeting on Dec. 18, 2017 with a 60-57 victory on its home floor. West Georgia holds an 11-4 advantage in the series against the Lady Choctaws as it recorded a 57-55 victory in Carrollton, Ga., earlier this season.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
•    Mississippi College looks to snap a three-game slide as it faces Auburn Montgomery at A.E. Wood Coliseum for the first time in series history. MC fell 58-38 to in-state foe Delta State on Saturday. 
•    Lauran Sheriff was the only Lady Choctaw in double figures against DSU as the freshman recorded her third collegiate double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sheriff added three blocks. Sheriff is second on the team in double-doubles. Her 10-rebound effort marks the third of the season and her first since Jan. 15, 2018 against Montevallo. Her three blocks mark her second game this season with three or more blocks. She recorded a season-high four on Dec. 30, 2017 against Tougaloo.
•    Sheriff has tallied 13 games in double figures this season - the most of any Lady Choctaw this season. The three block performance against the Lady Statesmen gives her the most games with three-plus blocks on the season.
•    A trio of Lady Choctaws are averaging double figures this season led by Kelley Allen's 13.1 points. The senior also leads the team with 9.3 rebounds per game - which is third in the conference. Sheriff ranks second on the team in scoring with 10.6 points per contest while Ieisha Lacey sits third with 10.3 points per outing.
•    Junior Zan Ratcliffe ranks third in the GSC with 5.0 assists per game while Sheriff is tied for fifth in the league in blocks per game with 1.2.
•    The Lady Choctaws look for their third win over a school from the Yellowhammer State on Thursday. MC has wins over West Alabama and Montevallo with losses to AUM, North Alabama and Alabama Huntsville.
•    Mississippi College will honor its three seniors; Kelley Allen, Shuntavia Rodgers, and Olivia Mabry following the basketball game on Saturday against West Georgia.

AUBURN MONTGOMERY NOTES
•    Auburn Montgomery enters the Thursday contest with an 8-12 record and 4-9 in the GSC. AUM fell 55-53 against West Alabama on Saturday. 
•    Freshman Makaylla Bullard led the Warhawks with a career-high 19 points while adding a pair of assists and steals. Sophomore Regan Croff added 11 points along with a game-high four steals and four rebounds.
•    AUM is 1-4 in its last five contests with the lone win coming against Montevallo (49-40) on Thursday, Jan. 25. 
•    The Warhawks are also 1-7 in true road games this season with their only road victory coming on Dec. 2 in a 54-49 decision against Shorter University.

WEST GEORGIA NOTES
•    West Georgia enters the weekend with an 11-9 record and 7-6 in the conference. The Wolves claimed a 74-56 victory over Montevallo and snapped a three-game, losing skid in the conference.
•    Junior A'Kia Harris recorded her sixth, career double-double with a career-high 18 rebounds and 11 points. Jessica Brown recorded her first, career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while senior De'Ashia Jones notched the 14th double-double of her career with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kayla Carter and Aysha Harris each scored a game-high 17 points.
•    Carter, Harris and Brown lead the Red and Blue this season in scoring. Carter paces the squad with 13.6 points per game followed by Harris with 10.7 points per game. Brown ranks third on the team with 10.3 points per outing.
