Women's Basketball Preview: Montevallo

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to A.E. Wood Coliseum on Monday, Jan. 15 as it faces the University of Montevallo in Gulf South Conference action. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

THE SERIES
 
Mississippi College and Montevallo meet for the third time in program history and the first since Feb. 22, 1993. Each team has won on its home floor. The Falcons won the last meeting between the two schools in an 82-49 decision. MC won the initial meeting between the two schools with an 81-64 victory in Clinton.
 
MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
 
Three Lady Choctaws average double figures in the scoring column led by Kelley Allen's 13.0 points. The Puckett, Miss., native has also grabbed a team-leading 10.3 rebounds – which is second in the GSC. Allen is the only player in the GSC to average a double-double this season.
 
Ieisha Lacey sits second on the team in scoring with 11.4 points per game followed by Lauran Sheriff with 10.5 points.
 
Mississippi College looks to snap a four-game skid as it returns to A.E. Wood Coliseum after it fell 76-53 at Valdosta State last Tuesday. Sheriff was the only Lady Choctaw to score in double figures as she led with 12 points. The Jackson, Miss., freshman has scored in double figures 10 times in her debut season with the Navy and Gold.
 
With two blocks at Valdosta State, Sheriff has registered five straight games with a block, including four contests with at least two rejections. The freshman has 10 games this season with a block. Allen paced MC on the glass with five rebounds. Kaitlyn Thompson finished second on the team with four boards.
 
MONTEVALLO NOTES
 
Montevallo enters the Monday contest with a 2-14 record and 0-8 in the GSC after falling 67-58 at Delta State on Saturday. De'Asia Marsh led the Purple and Gold with 24 points while Kiya Sain added 10 points and a team-best eight rebounds.
 
D'Miyah Foster leads UM in scoring with season with 9.6 points per game while Jomekia Morine sits just behind Foster with 9.3 points. Sain and Albanellys Perez pace the Falcons on the glass with 4.9 and 4.8 rebounds respectively.
 
UM head coach Gary Van Atta is in his second stint with the Falcons. Van Atta coached the Purple and Gold from 1989-1996. He posted a record 166-49 (.710) during the first seven seasons.
