CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team opened up Gulf South Conference play on Friday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over the University of West Alabama Tigers.

TURNING POINT
- In the 69th minute, senior defender Caitlin took a pass from senior midfielder Hannah Bailey and found the back of the net for her first goal of the 2017 season, rightfully giving the Lady Choctaws a 1-0 lead. MC did not look back from there, cruising to a shutout victory over the Tigers.

KEY STATS
- MC was able to outshoot UWA 14-12 in the contest, with nine of the Lady Choctaws shots coming in the second half.
- Of the Lady Choctaw's 14 shots, six were on frame.
- In Goal, Andrea McDonald was a perfect 7-7 on the day in save opportunities. The junior keeper recorded her second shutout of the season, while improving her record to 1-0-1 on the year.
- The Lady Choctaws took seven corners in the match, while holding the Tigers to just one.
- MC was tagged for nine fouls, while UWA was charged with four.

- With the win, The Lady Choctaws improve to 2-0-1 on the year, and 1-0 in GSC play.

- The Lady Choctaws will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 10 when they welcome the University of Alabama Huntsville to Longafield for a GSC Match. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
