JACKSON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Barry University on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Buccaneers got on the board first, when Sergio Yepes found the back of the net in the 34th minute. Jerrell Cato assisted on the score
- The Choctaws answered back with an equalizer in the 42nd minute, when Horacio Gutierrez Jr. knocked in his first goal of the 2017 season. Jacob Farthing and Michael Kuwornu helped set up the score
- A scoreless second half, plus two additional 10-minute overtime periods saw neither team score; giving way to the 1-1 draw
KEY STATS
- The Choctaws outshot the Buccaneers 16-15 in the contest
- MC took nine shots on goal, compared to Barry's eight.
- MC took nine shots in the first half, and seven in the second
- In Goal, Humbero Pelaez grabbed seven saves on the afternoon, while allowing just one goal. The senior keeper's record now sits at 1-0-1 for the season.
- Kuwornu's assist on the Gutierrez score in the first half accounted for his first as a Choctaw., while Farthing's assist on the day makes up for his third on the season, a team-best.
- MC committed 11 fouls in the contest, while Barry was tagged for nine.
- The Buccaneers took 12 corner kicks in the contest, while the Choctaws managed to take four.
- MC received two yellow cards, while Barry was the recipient of one.
KEY NOTES
- Wet field conditions forced the Choctaws to move the match to Belhaven Bowl Stadium on the campus of Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss.
- With the draw, MC's record now sits at 1-0-1 for the season.
- The Choctaws begin the 2017 with the same record as they did in 2016 (1-0-1) through their first two games.

- The Choctaws look ahead to Friday, Sept. 8, when they play host to Ouachita Baptist University. Match time at Longabaugh Field is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
