ROME, Ga. --- The sophomore duo of
Lauren Kate Carter and
Emma Claire Furman combined for both of the Mississippi College women's soccer team's goals in their 2-0 shutout victory over Gulf South Conference opponent Shorter University on Friday, Sept. 15.

TURNING POINT
- Carter's score in the 29th minute came in the unassisted variety, and gave MC the 1-0 lead. The Lady Choctaws would hold that lead for the duration of the game for the shutout victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Carter's goal in period number one marked for the lone scoring action in the first 45 minutes of play. The Lady Choctaws would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
- Furman provided the dagger for MC in the 70th minute with her second score of the season. The sophomore forward was assisted on the goal by redshirt sophomore Katie Taylor.

KEY STATS
- The Lady Choctaws took 14 total shots in the contest. MC tallied seven shots in the first period, and seven in the second period.
- The Lady Choctaw defense was able to neutralize the Shorter attack all match long, allowing just four shots and  three shots on goal.
- In goal, Andrea McDonald was a perfect 3-3 on save opportunities on the afternoon. The junior keeper, who improved her record to 2-0-1 with the win, has yet to allow a goal in net on the year.
- The Lady Choctaws took three corner kicks in the match, while the Hawks took two.
- MC was tagged for 14 fouls on the day, while Shorter was charged for nine.

MATCH NOTES
- With the win, the Lady Choctaws improve to 4-0-1 on the season, and 3-0 in GSC play. The victory marks for the Lady Choctaws third straight win in as many matches.
- Through five contests in 2017, the Lady Choctaws have allowed only one goal, for a goals allowed average of 0.20, a mark that leads the entire GSC.
UP NEXT
- The Lady Choctaws face a quick turnaround, as they will resume GSC action on Sunday, Sept. 17 when they travel to Cleveland, Tenn. to face off against Lee University. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
