CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team defeated the Chargers of the University of Alabama in Huntsville 8-1 in a Gulf South Conference matchup on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Choctaws improve to 9-8 overall and 5-3 against GSC opponents.
In singles,
Joan Valy (6-4, 6-4) and
Lucio Menezes (6-2, 6-4) both downed their opponents in straight sets. In the number four matchup,
Trey Randall defeated Elliot Hopson in three sets (3-6, 7-6 (7-6), 10-6).
In doubles,
Joan Valy and
Marcos Rocca picked up their team-leading 12
th win as a duo with their 8-4 victory over Noah Pring/Chris Miller. Menezes and
Sanders Barrick knocked off Sebastian Rohrbach/Elliot Hopson 8-3 in the number two spot, and
Petar Damjanovic and Nilges trumped Harrison Stone/Timo Christen 8-2 at number three.
The Choctaws will return to action on Wednesday, April 12 when they host Loyola University in a nonconference match. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
