CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team allowed just one unearned run over a doubleheader sweep of the defending Division II national champion North Alabama on Saturday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (25-13, 16-7 GSC) opened the day with an 8-1 victory before sophomore
Adrianna Morgan tossed her first career shutout in a 1-0 victory over the Lions (23-14, 13-10 GSC).
During Saturday's doubleheader, both MC and UNA showed support for Indianapolis head coach Missy Frost, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2016. The Lady Choctaws wore pink, while the Lions wore black with pink writing with the phrase "Faith.Fight.Frost" on them.

GAME ONE: Mississippi College 8, North Alabama 1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws wasted no time scoring all the runs they would need with two in the first inning on an RBI single by sophomore
Kristen Qualls and an RBI groundout from sophomore
Makenzie Nieto.
- The Lions would get their only run of the day in the fourth inning on an RBI single by McKenna Ray, driving in an unearned run after a couple of MC errors in the frame.
- Senior
Lauren Mulligan got the run right back in the bottom of the inning, moving up to third on a bunt single by junior
Katherine Lee and aggressively scoring when the UNA defense dropped their guard, momentarily.
- The fourth inning saw the Lady Choctaws add four runs to take a 6-1 lead, adding three unearned runs, highlighted by an RBI single from Nieto.
- The Lady Choctaws would add two more unearned runs in the fifth as Lee singled home Mulligan to cap the game's scoring.
KEY STATS
- Eight different Lady Choctaws had hits in the win, led by Lee with two base-knocks and an RBI.
- Nieto had a team-high two RBI, while Qualls had the other run batted in.
- The Lady Choctaws stole four bases in the contest, led by two from Mulligan and one each by seniors
Haley Thompson and
Tylan Buckley.
- Freshman
Jordan Holifield (4-0) gave up just five hits and one unearned run in her fourth victory in the last two weeks.
- Hillary Carpenter (12-6) took the loss for UNA, giving up six hits and three earned runs over 4.1 innings with four walks and one strikeout.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws had several opportunities to score early on, loading the bases in both the second and third innings but stranded seven runners over the first three scoreless innings.
- Senior
Megan Everett led off the fourth inning with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Mulligan.
- After Thompson drew a walk, Lee singled up the middle and Everett came home to score the eventual game-winning run.
KEY STATS
- Morgan (4-4) took over from there, not allowing a single base-runner to get past second base in the game.
- She gave up just five hits and struck out three with just one walk over the complete-game effort.
- Lee led the Lady Choctaw offense with two hits and the RBI, while Everett had a hit and the run scored.
- Raven Cole (7-6) took the loss for the Lions, pitching around nine walks and three hits with five strikeouts.
