CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought Gulf South Conference match 5-4 to Lee University on Saturday afternoon in their last match of the regular season. With the loss, the Choctaw's finish the 2017 regular season at 10-9 overall, and 5-4 in GSC play.
In singles,
Marcos Rocca picked up his team-best 12
th victory of the season against Jake Okines in the number three matchup.
Joan Valy and
Lucio Menezes joined Rocca as the only other Choctaws with double-digit single's victories on the season with their respective wins during the match. Valy (6-4, 7-6 (8-6)) and Menezes (6-1, 6-3) both secured their 10
th win in singles play for the year.
In doubles, Rocca and Valy accounted for MC's lone point, with an 8-4 victory over Rhys Milne/Igor Schattan in the number one matchup. The win improved the duo to a team-best 14-2 as a doubles unit.
The Choctaws will return to action on Thursday, April 20 against number-five seeded West Alabama in round one of the GSC Tennis Championship in Montgomery, Ala. Match time is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start time.
