LIVINGSTON, ALA. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team defeated the Tigers of the University of West Alabama 5-4 in their first Gulf South Conference match of the season on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Choctaw's record improves to 3-4 overall, and 1-0 against GSC opponents.
MC was able to grab two of the three possible doubles points against UWA.
Marcos Rocca and
Joan Valy picked up their team-best third win in doubles play over Julius Kaverinen Henrik Sinkko 8-5.
Max Nilges and
Sanders Barrick picked up their first win as a pair on the season with an 8-4 victory over Nicolai Jochamowitz and Anton Lof.
In singles action, Rocca picked up his team-leading fifth win over Andrii Stratiienko in straight sets in the number three matchup (6-2, 7-5). Valy bested Julius Kaverinen in straight sets (6-1, 7-5) in the numbed one matchup, and
Lucio Menezes knocked off Christopher Wood in three sets in the singles number two matchup (4-6, 6-4, 6-4)
The Choctaws will return to action on, Saturday, March 11 when they travel to Mobile, Ala. to face off against the University of Mobile. First serve is slated for 10:00 a.m.
