CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team picked up their fifth-consecutive win over the Statesmen of Delta State University 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Choctaws improve to 7-4 overall and an unblemished 3-0 in Gulf South Conference action.
In singles play,
Marcos Rocca improved his singles record to a team-best 8-2 on the season with a 7-6 (7-2) 5-3 (retired) victory over Joao Yamacita in the number three matchup.
Joan Valy (6-0, 6-2),
Lucio Menezes (7-5, 7-5), and
Petar Damjanovic (6-1, 6-0) all ousted their opponents in straight sets.
Max Nilges defeated Andrew Hildenbrand in a three-set outing (6-4, 4-6, 10-7).
In doubles, Rocca and Valy improved to a team-best 7-1 as a pair with an 8-1 victory over Andrew Hildenbrand and Julian Massa in the number one spot. Menezes and Damjanovic also picked a point for MC in doubles with their 8-6 defeat of Hicham Azzaoui and Jeoffrey Noblecourt in the number two matchup.
The Choctaws will return to action on Friday, March 24 when they host Shorter University for a GSC contest. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
