GAME NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws have seen their offense get going over the last five games, going 4-1 against Union and Alcorn State. MC is averaging 8.4 runs per game and hitting .348 as a team over that stretch. Freshman Carly Crawford is hitting .429 with four home runs, while sophomore Kristen Qualls is hitting .400 with three long balls and a team-high seven RBI.
- The Lady Choctaws have been off and running in the 2017 season, leading the Gulf South Conference and ranking 10th nationally with 78 stolen bases through 25 games, which already ranks 7th in school history for most in a single season. Senior Haley Thompson has swiped 29 bases in 30 attempts in 2017, which is the 5th-highest total in school history.
- Freshman Carly Crawford homered in all three games of a road series at Union University and was named the league's Freshman of the Week for her efforts. The Hattiesburg native hit .455 with a three home runs and five RBI over the three games. In MC's two wins, she hit two-run home runs against the Bulldogs. Crawford backed that up with a solo home run to open the scoring in a doubleheader sweep of Division I Alcorn State.
- The Lady Choctaws swept a mid-week, non-conference doubleheader with Alcorn State on Wednesday, outscoring the Lady Braves, 14-3. Crawford and sophomore Kristen Qualls each homered in the 6-1 win to open things, while a five-run second inning propelled MC to a 8-2 victory in the nightcap.
- On Monday, March 13th, the Lady Choctaws secured the 700th victory in program history with a 13-8 win over Union. The first win for MC came on March 22, 1986 with a 6-2 win over Tennessee-Martin. On Friday, February 10th, the Lady Choctaws played at Montevallo, which was the 1,200th game in Mississippi College softball history. The first game on record was on March 14, 1986 when MC played Troy State in Columbus, MS (L, 13-14).
- Brooke O'Hair is in her 11th season as MC's head softball coach, already sitting atop the list of most wins in school history. Of the six 30-win seasons in school history, the former Mississippi State second baseman has achieved the feat five times. Following the school-record 39 wins in 2016 and the nine this season, O'Hair is just 8 victories away from 300 for her career. She was named the NCCAA National Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Choctaws to a national championship last season.
- The Lady Bucs come into the series having lost 12 straight games, including being swept in series against Union, UAH and West Alabama. In GSC play, CBU is being outscored 119-21 with an ERA of 10.60. Kylie Steagall (.377) is the team's leading hitter with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI.
