Choctaws Fall at Rival Delta State, 85-62

CLEVELAND, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team dropped a road game to rival Delta State, 85-62, on Monday night in Walter Sillers Coliseum.
 
TURNING POINT
  • After the Choctaws (4-16, 1-15 GSC) scored the game's first two points, the Statesmen (16-6, 11-5 GSC) went on an 11-2 run and never trailed again on their way to the big home victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Junior Otis Harvey nailed a three-pointer with 10:25 remaining in the opening period to cut the score to 20-17.
  • The Statesmen used an 11-4 run and scored seven straight near the end of the first half to take a 41-28 lead into the break.
  • Delta State was able to put the game away with an 11-0 run in the second half to grab a 25-point advantage at 67-42.
 
KEY STATS
  • The Statesmen got a combined 59 points from senior Devin Schmidt (30) and sophomore Brett Warner (29).
  • DSU went 13-of-29 (45%) from the three-point line, outscoring MC from behind the arc, 39-6.
  • The Choctaws put four players in double-figures, led by 13 points from freshman Brandon Boston and sophomore Xavion Dillon.
  • Junior Stacey Mack scored in double-figures for the 12th straight game, putting up 10 with nine rebounds.
  • The Choctaws outscored the DSU bench 29-8, led by 26 combined from Boston and Dillon.
 
NEXT UP
  • The Choctaws will play the next two games at home, starting with a Thursday night affair against Shorter (7:30 p.m.).
