Lady Choctaws Conclude 2016-17 Season

LIVINGSTON, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a 67-57 contest at the University of West Alabama on Saturday, Feb. 25. MC concludes the season with a 12-14 record and 9-13 in the Gulf South Conference.
 
TURNING POINT
  • Three consecutive trips with turnovers spurred a 7-0 run by West Alabama to place them up 53-46 with five minutes to play.

KEY STATS
  • Kelley Allen recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds in the setback while Ashley Minor led the team in scoring with 18 points. Minor concludes her career with 34 games in double figures.
  • West Alabama grabbed 51 rebounds in the contest while the Lady Choctaws pulled down 36.
  • Ariel Wilson paced UWA with 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the campaign. Sydney King added 13 points while Chloe Culpepper grabbed a team-best 13 rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A back and forth battle through the first half found MC down 28-25 at the intermission.
  • UWA  held as much as four-point lead with under four minutes to play in the third period, 38-34, but MC battled back, behind a 9-3 run, to take a 43-41 lead with 1:14 left in the period. The Lady Choctaws knocked down three of their last four free throws of the period lead 46-43 with 10 minutes to play.
  • Following a Wilson 3-pointer to deadlock the contest at 46-all with 8:19 left to play in the game, the Tigers converted on three straight Lady Choctaw miscues into seven consecutive points to grab the lead they didn't relinquish.
  • UWA grabbed its first double-digit lead of the game with a minute to play in the contest on a pair of Wilson free throws. Peyton Parker followed with two free throws of her own to give the Red and White its largest lead of the game with 49 seconds left.
 
The loss concludes the careers of three MC seniors; Minor, Lanae' Bickham and Toni Woods.
