MONTEVALLO, Ala. --- The Mississippi College softball team could not overcome three home runs by #16 Indianapolis in a 6-2 loss on Saturday afternoon at Montevallo Softball Stadium at Orr Park.
TURNING POINT
- Taylor Podschweit gave the Greyhounds (1-2) the lead in the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field that came with two outs and two strikes in the count.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dani Turner put the first run on the board for UINDY in the first inning with a lead-off home run to left field, her first of two on the day.
- The Lady Choctaws (3-3) struck back in their half of the first as senior
Haley Thompson singled, stole second and came home to score on a passed ball.
- After the home run by Podschweit in the fourth, the Greyhounds extended the lead to 6-1 with a three-run fifth inning, highlighted by another solo home run from Turner.

Lauren Mulligan hit her first career home run in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the score to 6-2.
- The Lady Choctaws would threaten again in the sixth inning as the tying run was on deck with runners on first and second and just one out. Freshman
Carly Crawford sent a lined shot up the middle that was snagged by the pitcher, and her throw to first base was in time for a big double play.
KEY STATS
- Sophomore
Penny Nichols (0-2) took the loss for MC, giving up five hits and four earned runs over 4.0 innings.
- Lauren Honkomp (1-1) gave up five hits and two earned runs, striking out two in the complete game effort.
- Five different Lady Choctaws recorded hits with Thompson and Mulligan scoring the two runs.
- The Lady Choctaw defense did not make an error for the third time in six games this season, going 2-1 in such games.
- MC has now gone 3-0 when recording 10 or more hits in a game, while going 0-3 when tallying less than 10 hits.
- Lady Choctaw pitchers combined to strike out a season-high six batters in the loss.
- Turner led all players with three hits and two runs scored, while Turner and Podschweit had two RBI apiece.
