CARROLLTON, Ga. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team dropped a 57-55 contest at the University of West Georgia on Saturday afternoon. The setback sends MC to 4-5 and 1-3 in Gulf South Conference action while UWG improved to 7-2 and 3-0 in league play.

KEY NOTES
Ieisha Lacey led the Lady Choctaws with 13 points. The Jackson, Miss., native was one of three players for the Navy and Gold in double figures in the setback. The sophomore has scored in double-digits in six contests this season, which is tied for tops on the team.

Lauran Sheriff and
Zariah Matthews each added 10 points for MC. Sheriff joins Lacey with six double figure scoring efforts.

Kelley Allen paced the Lady Choctaws on the glass with nine rebounds. Matthews, Lacey and Sheriff each grabbed five rebounds to finish second on the team. The total tied a career-high for Matthews.

Mississippi College shot 33.3 percent from behind the arc, which matches a season-high set against West Alabama last Saturday in Clinton.

Aysha Harris led West Georgia with 23 points. The junior was one of three Wolves in double figures.

TURNING POINT
With the game knotted at 55-all, West Georgia's De'Ashia Jones hit a jumper with 1:06 left to play to give the Wolves the two-point advantage and the game-winning shot. Jones finished the game with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
West Georgia opened the contest with a 12-0 run, but MC chipped away at the early deficit with an 8-0 run and clipped the lead to 12-8 at the end of the first 10 minutes as the run was capped by an
Olivia Mabry, 3-pointer as time expired.

Mississippi College continued to work away at the UWG advantage and grabbed its first lead of the game at 23-22 on a layup from
Zan Ratcliffe with 1:41 left in the first period. The two teams exchanged free throws in final seconds of the quarter to send MC into the intermission up 25-24.

The Lady Choctaws opened the second half with a 7-0 run to grab their largest lead of the game at 32-24 with 9:16 left in the quarter. UWG chipped away at the deficit and tied the game at 40-all with 3:17 left in the period. The two squads swapped leads down the final minutes of the quarter with West Georgia clinging to a 35-34 lead through the first 30 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter featured several lead changes and four deadlocks with the final tie coming with 1:31 left to play, 55-55, on a free throw from MC's Allen. The Lady Choctaws held their final lead of the game at 54-53 with 2:22. Allen and Sheriff helped the Navy and Gold grab a 54-51 advantage with 2:35 left in the game, but a 6-1 run by the Wolves closed the contest.
