CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood this weekend as the Lady Choctaws (4-4, 1-2 Gulf South Conference) travel to the University of West Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 16. Tip-off in Carrollton, Ga., is scheduled for 1 p.m. central. MC follows with a visit to Auburn University at Montgomery on Monday, Dec. 18. Tip is slated for 5:30 p.m.

THE SERIES

•   Mississippi College and West Georgia meet for the 15th time in series history on Saturday. West Georgia holds the series record at 10-4 despite MC taking two of the last three outings. The Lady Choctaws claimed their first win in the series on Feb. 16, 1991 and claimed their second win in the series on Jan. 16, 1993 - both wins coming in Clinton. UWG claimed the next four meetings between 1993 and the next MC win on Jan. 21, 2016. The Lady Choctaws and West Georgia split the series meetings last season as both teams won on their home floor. The series originally began on Jan. 29, 1990 in Clinton with a 70-65, West Georgia win.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES

•   Mississippi College claimed its first, GSC win of the season on Saturday, Dec. 9 with a 80-76 decision over West Alabama. The victory was the 12th in the series for the Lady Choctaws and the eighth inside A.E. Wood Coliseum.

Lauran Sheriff scored 10 points and pulled down six rebounds in the win over West Alabama. The performance helped the Jackson, Miss., native earn Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week honors. Sheriff, who is one of three Lady Choctaws to start all eight games this season, averages 10.8 points, 6.3 rebounds and 31.1 minutes this season – all rank among the leaders in the GSC. The former Jackson Academy standout becomes the first Lady Choctaw to earn a conference, weekly honor since Ebony Williams earned American Southwest Conference East Player of the Week on Jan. 7, 2013.

Zariah Matthews with 18 points each. The scoring total marked a career-high for Lacey.
Kelley Allen pulled down a team-best 13 rebounds in the contest.

•   MC has five players averaging double figures this season led by
Kelley Allen with 16.8 points. The Puckett, Miss., native also averages 13.3 rebounds as she stands as just one of three players in the GSC to average a double-double this season.

•   Lacey ranks second on the team in scoring with 12.4 points per game followed by
Emery Wilson's 11.0. Sheriff and Matthews round out the group with 10.8 and 10.6 points per contest.

WEST GEORGIA NOTES

•   West Georgia ran its current win streak to four games following a 69-67 win at Clark Atlanta on Wednesday evening. The Wolves received a layup from Kayla Carter with three seconds left to secure the win and erase a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter. Carter finished the game with a team-best 18 points. The Wolves outscored CAU 23-11 in the final 10 minutes.

•   UWG's De'Ashia Jones and Kilah Nixon joined Carter in double figures with 15 and 13 points respectively. D'Asia Cain paced the Red and Blue on the glass with eight rebounds.

•   Carter and Jones lead West Georgia in scoring this season. Carter averages 15.0 points while Jones has provided 10.4 points per game this season. Jones also leads the Wolves on the glass with 7.1 rebounds per contest.

•   Saturday's GSC contest marks the first at home this season for West Georgia and just the third home contest this season. The Red and Blue are 2-0 in league play this season as it grabbed a 61-47 win at Shorter last weekend and followed with a 72-63 victory at Lee.

•    The Wolves are 6-2 on the campaign. UWG split its first four contests with victories at Palm Beach Atlantic (74-60) and at Tuskegee (63-58). The two losses on the ledger came at Tampa (71-68) and against Albany State (69-65).

AUBURN MONTGOMERY NOTES
•  AUM enters the weekend with a 5-3 record and 1-1 in GSC play. The Warhawks claimed a 66-59 win in non-conference action on Tuesday, Dec. 12 over Spring Hill College to run their current win streak to two games. The Orange and Black posted four players in double figures led by Evelina Avleeva's 17 points. The junior also grabbed 10 rebounds in the effort to garner her first double-double of the season.
•  Jemaiya Lee and Makylla Bullard each added 15 points in the victory over SHC while Aaliyah Milord provided 11 points.
•  Avleeva leads AUM with 11.8 points per game this season while Lee averages 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds.
