MONTGOMERY, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team punched their ticket to the Gulf South Conference Championship game with their 2-0 shutout win over West Florida on Friday evening. With the Win, the Lady Choctaws improve to 15-2-1 on the season.
 
TURNIING POINT
- Lauren Smith found the back of the net for her 9^th goal of the season in the 60^th minute, doubling MC's lead to 2-0. The score gave the Lady Choctaws enough breathing room to secure the 2-0 win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- MC broke the scoreless draw in the 39^th minute, when Katie Taylor played a ball to Holly Pascoe in the box, who would go on to connect for her third goal of the season.
- MC keeper Andrea McDonald thwarted UWF best scoring opportunity in the 63^rd minute, when she left her feet to just tip away a UWF free kick.
- Smith's left-footed strike midway through the second period would go on to pave the way for the 2-0 final.
 
KEY STATS
- Katie Taylor posted a team-high two assist on the night, marking for a team-high five on the year.
- The Lady Choctaws took eight shots on the night, with four on frame. MC took six shots in the first period, and two in the second.
- The MC defense put together another solid outing on the evening, allowing just three shots on goal en route to pitching their 11^th shutout of the season.
- In Goal McDonald was a perfect 3-3 on save opportunities in the contest. The junior netminder improved her 2017 record to 11-2-1, while picking up her GSC-best eighth shutout of the season.
- MC took eight corner kicks in the contest, while holding UWF to seven.
- The Lady Choctaws were on the receiving end of five fouls, while the Argos collected 11 in the match.
 
MATCH NOTES
- The win for MC accounts for their 15^th on the season, marking for third most single-season in program history.
- The win marks for MC's sixth straight win on the year, marking for a new season-high, including 11 wins in their last 12 matches.
 
UP NEXT
- The Lady Choctaws will take on the winner of the Lee/Valdosta State match in the championship game of the GSC Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 5. Match time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
