CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team will travel to Montgomery, Ala. on Friday, Nov. 3 to take on number two-seed Alabama Huntsville in the semifinal round of the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament at 12:00 p.m. at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.
MC NOTES
- The number three-seeded Choctaws (11-2-3) outlasted West Florida 3-2 in the quarterfinal round of the GSC Postseason Tournament in their most recent action on Tuesday, Oct. 31 in Clinton.
- The Choctaws were receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II National Rankings, while moving up to number four in the South Regional Rankings.
- Five MC men's soccer players were named to the GSC All-Conference teams as a result of their efforts on the field during the year.
Jacob Farthing and
Humberto Pelaez were named to the All-Conference First Team, while
Victor Bazan,
Horacio Gutierrez Jr. and
Elliot Rimmer received second-team honors.
- On offense, the Choctaws pace the GSC in shots taken (304), average shots per game (19), shots on goal (135) and shots on goal per match (8.44). MC currently ranks third in the conference, averaging 2.125 goals scored per game. MC has scored 34 goals in 16 matches.
- Gutierrez currently paces the Choctaw attack with a team-high six goals scored on the year. Farthing and Bazan both sit behind Gutierrez with five goals scored on the season.
- Farthing's six assists serves as a team-high, while marking for second in the conference. Gutierrez, Bazan,
Connor Johnson,
Abel Perez and
Rafael Costa all sit behind Farthing with three assists on the season.
- Both Farthing
Marco Profumo lead the Choctaws, and sit tied for the conference lead, with three game-winning goals each.
- On defense, the Choctaws are averaging one goal allowed per match, while allotting 9.6 shots from their opponents per match.
- Goalkeeper
Humberto Pelaez (11-2-3) brings a goals against average of 0.95 into Friday's match, with five shutouts recorded on the season and a save percentage of 79 percent.
UAH NOTES
- The Chargers (8-6-2) finished the 2017 regular season with enough conference points to secure the number two seed in the tournament, clinching them a bye in the quarterfinal round of the tournament.
- The Chargers wrapped up their regular season with a 1-0 loss to the #14 ranked West Alabama Tigers on Oct. 26.
- UAH saw three of their players named to the 2017 GSC All-Conference Teams, with Corentin Diverres and Jordan Wright grabbing first team honors and Gunnar Birgisson receiving second-team honors.
- On offense, the Chargers are on a current pace of 2.25 goals per game having netted 36 goals in 16 games; both marks that rank second in the GSC.
- Jordan Wright (10) and Corentin Diverres (9) make up for 19 of UAH's 36 goals scored on the year, while Diverres is responsible for seven of the 26 assists recorded by the Chargers in 2017.
- The Charger defense has allowed 27 goals from their opponents on the season, for an average of 1.69 goals given up per contest.
- Goalkeeper Myles Fullen (8-5-2) has recorded one shutout on the year, while bringing a goals against average of 1.44 into Friday's matchup.
SERIES HISTORY
- The Choctaws bring an all-time record of 1-2-1 against UAH into their matchup on Friday. In their most recent match earlier in the year, MC played to a 1-1 draw with the Chargers on Oct. 6 in Clinton.
MATCH COVERAGE
- Both live stats and streaming video will be available for the match through the GSC's portal with stretch internet.
- The winner of Friday's contest will face off against the winner of the West Alabama vs. Montevallo match at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5.
