CLINTON, Miss. --- Freshman
Darius Young has been named to the All-Gulf South Conference First Team, it was announced on Wednesday (November 15).

Young (Shelbyville, Tenn.) earned First Team Return Specialist and Special Teams Utility laurels after leading the league with a kickoff return average of 29.1 yards over 17 returns. He was named the Freshman of the Week on October 2
nd after his efforts against Delta State, taking back five kicks for 194 yards with three being over 50 yards.

On the season, the rookie tallied 17 kick returns for 494 yards and a long of 67 yards against Southwest Baptist (September 30). The rookie also caught seven passes for 84 yards and a touchdown, including a 34-yard score in the 30-29 win over Shorter (November 4). In the victory, he had three catches for 50 yards.

The conference-wide Player of the Year awards were also announced on Wednesday with Brett Gilliland of West Alabama, who won the 2017 regular season title, being named Coach of the Year. Devontae Jackson (West Georgia) and Terry Samuel (West Alabama) were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. Mike Beaudry (West Florida) and Christon Taylor (North Alabama) garnered Freshman Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors.
