CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team snapped a five-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the University of Montevallo in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday afternoon. MC improved to 8-10 on the season and 2-5 in the conference. UM moved to 7-8 on the campaign and 3-5 in the league.
 
KEY NOTES
The four-set win marks the first, head coaching win for interim coach Holly Tupper.
 
Madison Frazier notched a season-high 16 kills in the effort. The total surpassed her previous mark of 11 that was tied on Friday evening in a setback to West Georgia.
 
Amanda Torres posted a team-best 26 assists in the match. The mark is a season-high for the San Juan, Puerto Rico, native and she replaced her previous high of 20 set against Concord on Sept. 1.
 
Sydney Chandler recorded her 13th career double-double with 23 assists – two shy of her season-high – and a career-high 18 digs.
 
Krista Zieschang turned in 10 kills in the contest. Jill Brown led the team with 22 digs – two off her season-high.
 
Mississippi College hit .250 in the win – the second-best attack percentage this season for the Lady Choctaws. MC hit .290 against Texas A&M International on Sept. 16.
 
Brie Blume led Montevallo with 11 kills.

HOW IT HAPPENED
MC held as much as a 16-7 lead in the opening set, including a 6-0 run to open the contest, as Madison Kimes delivered a service ace to place the Lady Choctaws up nine points. Montevallo responded with a 12-5 run to clip the deficit to 21-19. The Navy and Gold snapped the run on a kill from Frazier followed by back-to-back aces from Kayana Mitchell to place the squad up 24-19. UM delayed the set point with back-to-back points, but a Frazier kill ended the set 25-21.
 
The Lady Choctaws fell behind early in the second set, but rallied to tie the contest at 16-all. However, UM responded with another run to push the lead out to 20-17. MC cut the deficit to a point on three occasions down the stretch, but couldn't over the advantage as it fell 25-23.
 
A tight set throughout in the third, the two squads deadlocked at 19-all, MC was able to log six of the final eight points in the set to claim a 25-21 win and a 2-1 advantage in the match. Frazier added a pair of kills during the final run while the Lady Choctaws picked up a kill each from Autumn Frost and Zieschang. Brown delivered the final point with a service ace.
 
Down 11-9 in the fourth set, MC went on an 11-0 run to take command at 20-11. Four kills from Torres and three from Frazier headlined the scoring spurt. Montevallo nipped at the deficit cutting the margin to four points, but an attack error ended the run and gave the Lady Choctaws a 25-20 victory.

Mississippi College returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 11 as it travels to Lorman, Miss., for a tri-match at Alcorn State University. MC faces Tougaloo at 4 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. contest against the Lady Braves.
