Second-Half Surge Lifts West Florida Over Choctaws, 28-14

PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College football team took a 14-7 lead into the halftime break, but West Florida scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to grab a 28-14 win on Friday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium.

The Choctaws fell to 0-6 on the season with an 0-4 mark in the Gulf South Conference, while the Argonauts improved to 4-1 overall with a 2-1 league record.

TURNING POINT
- In the final minutes of a tightly-contested game, the Choctaws had a 4th-and-goal at the West Florida two-yard line. MC's last ditch effort to tie the game up was intercepted and returned the length of the field for a touchdown to give the game its final score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Argos would take a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes, but the Choctaws responded with a 14-play, 78-yard drive that took just over six minutes and ended with a two-yard touchdown run by junior Tiberias Lampkin, his first of the season.
- After the MC defense forced a turnover on downs, freshman Aaron Feazelle found sophomore Nathan Faciane for a seven-yard score to give the Choctaws a 14-7 lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter.
- Both defenses stiffened the rest of the half, and MC would take the seven-point lead to the break.
- The Choctaws got the ball to open the second half, but an interception on the second play of the drive, one of three picks for the UWF defense on the night, led to an Argonaut touchdown and a 14-14 tie.
- The Argos took the lead for good with 2:12 remaining in the third quarter as Grey Jackson ran in from six yards out to cap an 11-play, 69-yard drive.
- The Choctaws would get into UWF territory twice in the fourth quarter, but the Argos kept them out of the end zone, punctuating the victory with the long interception return for a score.

KEY STATS
- The Choctaws had their biggest rushing night of the season, carrying the ball 49 times for 210 yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry.
- Lampkin led the team with 60 rushing yards and a touchdown, while junior Alizee Chubbs carried the ball a team-high 14 times for 58 yards.
- Faciane caught nine passes for 58 yards and a score, while sophomore Drew Croegaert caught three passes for 26 yards.

- Chris Schwarz led the Argonaut offensive attack with 83 rushing yards and a touchdown, while Anthony Johnson also had a rushing touchdown in the game.
- Reggie Barnes led all players with 14 tackles for UWF, also picking off a pass on the evening.

GAME NOTES
- The Choctaws are now 0-2 all-time against the Argonauts with both meetings coming in the last two seasons and UWF winning both by 14 points.
- Despite the loss, the MC defense allowed their fewest points of the season.
- The game was moved to Friday night due to the possible landfall of Tropical Storm Nate over the weekend.

NEXT UP
- The Choctaws will head to Georgia next Saturday to face Valdosta State at 6:00 p.m. (CT). The contest will be featured as the GSC-TV/ESPN3 Game of the Week.
