CLINTON, Miss, --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team booked their spot in the Gulf South Conference Postseason Tournament Semifinals with a 5-1 win over West Alabama on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Choctaws improve to 14-2-1 on the year.

TURNING POINT
- After a West Alabama goal made the score 3-1 in the second period, junior forward
Lauren Smith lofted a shot just over the head of West Alabama's keeper in the 63rd minute, with help from
Gaylynn Cooper, to give MC a three-goal advantage and the momentum it needed to cruise to the 5-1 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lady Choctaws broke the scoreless tie in the 25
th minute, when
Emma Claire Furman netted her fifth goal of the season off of a penalty kick.
- MC would double their lead early in the second half, when
Caitlin Hayes delivered a ball to Furman just outside of the box, who would then dribble in to finish for her second goal of the day in the 49
th minute.
- MC took their first three-goal advantage of the match in the 53
rd minute, when Cooper connected for her first goal of the season with help from Furman.
- Following Smith's goal to make it 4-1 MC, Hayes delivered the final blow for MC. The senior defender slotted her fourth goal of the season on a free kick, giving way to the final 5-1 score.

- Furman led the way offensively for MC on the day, with two goals scored and one goal assisted on. Both Hayes and Cooper would finish with a goal and an assist in the match.
- The Lady Choctaws outshot the Tigers 18-10 in the match, with 11 of those 18 shots coming on frame. MC took six shots in the first half, and 12 in the second.
- For just the seventh time all season, the Lady Choctaws surrendered a goal during the match. The MC backline held West Alabama to just four shots on goal on the day.
- In goal,
Andrea McDonald recorded three saves on the day, while improving her 2017 record to 10-2-1.
- MC took six corner kicks in the match, while West Alabama took five.
- The Lady Choctaws were tagged for 10 fouls, while the Tigers were on the receiving end of seven.
- MC collected one yellow card, while West Alabama received three yellows and one red during the match.
MATCH NOTES
- The win marks for the Lady Choctaws fifth in a row, and their 10
th in their last 11 matches.
- The win also marks for the Lady Choctaws 14
th on the year, ranking tied for third-most in program history
