Men’s Soccer Celebrates Senior Day with 6-0 win against AUM

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team wrapped up their 2017 regular season with a 6-0 victory over Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Choctaws record improves to 10-2-3 overall, and 7-2-2 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws notched their first goal of the match in the 11th minute, when senior Julio Moreno set up senior Marco Profumo for his fourth goal of the season.
- MC would go on to double their lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute, when Connor Johnson knocked in his fourth goal of the season. Horacio Gutierrez Jr. helped set up the score.
- The Choctaws recorded their third goal of the game in the 47th minute, when MC keeper Humberto Pelaez launched a long goal kick that found the foot of Victor Bazan, who dished it off to Abel Perez for the score. The goal marked for Perez's first as a Choctaw.
- MC extended their lead to 4-0 when senior Jacob Farthing knocked in his fifth goal of the year, after a blocked Bazan shot found his foot for the successful strike.
- Bazan would get in on the scoring action in the 67th minute, when Gutierrez set up the freshman striker for his fifth goal of the year.
- Sophomore Dominic Snee delivered the final blow for the Choctaws, when he took a pass from Jacob Farthing and found the back of the net for his second goal of the year.
 
KEY STATS
- The Choctaws amassed a season-high six goals on the day, with six different players contributing to the scoring action.
- Gutierrez led the way in assists for the Choctaws, with a season-high two on the day.
- MC took 26 shots in the match, with 13 on frame. The Choctaws took a nine shots in the first half, and 17 in the second.
- The MC defense put together a strong outing, holding AUM to just six shots, including just two shots on frame, on the day.
- In goal, Pelaez improved his 2017 record to 10-2-3. The senior keeper was a perfect 2-2 on save opportunities, while picking up his fifth shutout of the season.
- MC took five corner kicks in the match, while holding AUM to two.
- The Choctaws racked up 10 fouls during the contest, while the Warhawks were tagged for 17.
- Five cards were passed out in total, with MC receiving thee yellows and AUM receiving a yellow and a red.
 
MATCH NOTES
- Saturday's win accounted for MC's 10th of the year, marking for the Choctaws second-straight season with double digit wins since becoming a full-time member of division II.
- Prior to Saturday's match,  MC recognized its 13 seniors as part of senior day festivities.
 
UP NEXT
- The Choctaws will resume play in the Gulf South Conference Tournament on either Tuesday, Oct. 31 or Friday, Nov. 3 depending on tournament seeding.
