MOBILE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team punched their ticket to the GSC Postseason Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Spring Hill College on Sunday afternoon. With the win, The Lady Choctaws improve to 10-2-1 overall and 9-2 in Gulf South Conference play.

TURNING POINT
- Up 2-0 in the second period, junior midfielder and Captain
Samantha Carson connected on a penalty kick in the 67
th minute. The goal gave MC a three-goal cushion, allowing them to cruise to a 4-0 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Peace Gill Gave MC a 1-0 lead in the 8
th minute, when
Emma Claire Furman and Carson teamed up to provide Gill with the scoring opportunity. The goal marked for Gill's second on the season.
- Freshman midfielder
Emily McNair doubled MC's lead to 2-0 in the 29
th minute, when she beat a Badger defender 1-on-1 and delivered a low-lining shot into the back of the net for her third goal of the year.
- After going up 3-0 in period number two, Furman delivered the final blow for MC in the 75
th minute.
Katie Taylor and
Caitlin Hayes helped set up the successful header off of a free kick. The goal marked for Furman's fourth on the year.

KEY STATS
- Both Carson and Furman would go on to finish with a team-high three points on the day, both tallying a goal and an assist.
- The Lady Choctaws tallied a 31 shots on the day, their second highest shot total compiled on the season.
- Of MC's 31 shots, 12 came on frame. The Lady took 15 shots in the first half, and 16 in the second.
- The Lady Choctaw defense put together another impressive outing, allowing just three shots and one shot on goal all day. MC pitched their GSC-best ninth shutout of 2017.
- In goal,
Gabby Kayser was a perfect 1-1 on save opportunities on the day. The sophomore keeper improved her record to 3-0 on the season, while picking up her second shutout of 2017.
- MC took 11 corner kicks in the match, while holding Spring Hill to 0.
- The Lady Choctaws were tagged for six fouls on the day, while Spring Hill collected 11.

- The Lady Choctaws joined North Alabama and Lee as GSC teams to clinch a spot in the Postseason Conference Tournament.
- Freshmen McNair and
Lexi Ballon both tallied their first career collegiate starts in today's match.

- The Lady Choctaws will return home for their next match on Friday, Sept. 20, when they host the University of Montevallo in GSC action. Match time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
