HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team claimed season sweep over the University of Alabama in Huntsville following a 63-58 win at Spragins Hall on Saturday, Jan. 28. MC improved to 10-7 and 7-6 in the Gulf South Conference. UAH falls to 3-15 and 2-11 in the league.

TURNING POINT
- Shuntavia Rodgers gave Mississippi College a 41-40 advantage with 9:33 left to play in the game on a fastbreak layup off an Olivia Mabry steal. MC held the Chargers at bay the remainder of the way and as it didn't relinquish the lead. The Lady Choctaws held a seven-point advantage on two occasions during the final quarter – their largest of the game.
KEY STATS/NOTES
- The Lady Choctaws placed three players in double figures led by Kelley Allen with 14 points. It marks the 13th game in double figures for the Puckett, Miss., native. Ashley Minor added 12 points for her 11th game in double-digits and 29th of her career.
- Shuntavia Rodgers rounded out the trio with a career-high 10 points. The performance tops a nine-point effort at Valdosta State on Dec. 19, 2015.
- The Lady Choctaws received 32 of its 63 points in the paint and outscored UAH by 20 in the category.
- MC held a 10-2 advantage in fast break points and 24-10 in points off turnovers.
- Mississippi College received 19 points from its bench in the game and outscored the Blue and White by 10 in the category.
- The Lady Choctaws went 7-3 in the month of January.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mississippi College trailed after the first three quarters, but used a 26-18 final 10 minutes to claim the win.
- The Lady Choctaws trailed by six points on two occasions in the first quarter and down by as many as eight points in the first half, 16-8 with 9:53 left before the half.
- MC went on an 8-0 run to deadlock the contest at 16-all with 5:59 remaining in the first half. UAH responded to regain the lead and head into the intermission up 24-23.
- The Lady Choctaws claimed their first lead of the game at the 5:06 mark in the third quarter as Cortrice Golden connected on a free throw to complete an old-fashioned, 3-point play.
- A pair of free throws from Katie Speegle and a Baylee Johnson jumper gave UAH a 40-37 lead at the end of three quarters.
- Kelley Allen clipped the lead to 40-39 nine seconds into the fourth quarter and an Olivia Mabry steal, 20 seconds later, led to Rodgers' fastbreak layup to place MC up for good.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE/NOTES
- Mississippi College shot 40.3 percent from the field in the game and held UAH to just under 40 percent. MC is 8-3 when out-shooting its opponents and 5-2 when holding them to under 40 percent from the field.
- The Lady Choctaws outrebounded UAH 36-34 in the contest. The Navy and Gold is 7-1 when outrebounding the opponents..
