Women's Basketball Preview: Valdosta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team looks to return to win column on Saturday, Jan. 21 as it travels to Valdosta, Ga., to face Valdosta State University in a Gulf South Conference contest. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. central.

THE SERIES
Mississippi College looks to gain its second win in as many years on Valdosta's home floor. The split the series last season, which included a 68-63, Lady Choctaw victory in Valdosta. VSU holds the lead in the series at 16-9 following a 63-49 win on Feb. 4 last season in Clinton.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE NOTES
Mississippi College had its season-long, five-game win streak snapped on Thursday evening. A strong third quarter helped West Florida gain the despite a 21-all tie at the end of the first and MC outscoring the Argos in the second and fourth quarters.

Ashley Minor continued to lead the Navy and Gold in scoring. The Natchez, Miss, native led MC with 18 points at West Florida. The senior guard has 10 games in double figures this season and is averaging a team-best 15.1 points per game.

Olivia Mabry added 15 points in the setback at West Florida - it marked the sixth time this season the junior has scored in double figures on the season.

Mississippi College shot 41.2 percent from the field at West Florida after shooting 48.6 percent in the first half. MC held a seven-point advantage in points off turnovers. The Navy and Gold turned the Argos' 19 turnovers into 23 points in the game.

VALDOSTA STATE NOTES
Valdosta State has won its last two outings this season with decisions over West Alabama and Delta State - both at the Complex on the VSU campus. The Lady Blazers are 7-1 this season on their home floor.

The Lady Blazers are outrebounding their opponents by nearly nine rebounds per game - which is tops in the GSC and 14th nationally.
