JACKSON, Tenn. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team saw a second-half rally fall short in a 91-79 loss at Union on Monday night in Fred DeLay Gymnasium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws (3-6, 0-5 GSC) jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead following basket from senior
DeOndre Haynes and sophomore
Davy Fisher.
- Junior
Stacey Mack gave the Choctaws a 12-11 lead with 15:00 remaining on a three-point play.
- The Bulldogs (8-4, 3-3 GSC) answered with a 10-0 run and would keep the lead the rest of the game, including taking a 42-34 lead into halftime.
- After extending the lead to as many as 12 in the opening minutes of the second half, Mack's layup with 5:07 remaining cut the score to 72-70.
- Union would close out the game on a 19-9 run to grab the 12-point victory.
KEY STATS
- The Choctaws were led in scoring by sophomore
Davy Fisher, who scored a career-high 15 points in the loss.
- MC shot over 48% from the field for the fourth straight game, going 28-of-56 (50%) from the field and 5-of-11 (45%) from the three-point line.
- The Bulldogs shot 53% (32-of-60) and went 13-of-27 (48%) from the three-point line.
- Junior
Antonio Johnson (13) also scored in double-figures, going 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Junior
Stacey Mack (12) also scored double-figures for the Choctaws.
- Sophomore
Xavion Dillon led the team with nine rebounds to go along with nine points.
- Tray Boyd (19) led four Union players in double-figures, going 5-of-9 from the three-point line.
- Ashanti Day scored 17 points and led the team with eight rebounds.
GAME NOTES
- Fisher's three-pointer with 15:07 remaining in the first half gave the Choctaws 491 straight contests with a long ball, dating back to March 5, 1998.
- MC is now 4-6 all-time against the Bulldogs, including 0-4 all-time in Jackson.
WHAT'S NEXT
- The Choctaws will open a four-game homestand on Saturday (Jan. 7) when they host West Alabama at 4:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
