PENSACOLA, Fla. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team had its five-game win streak as the Lady Choctaws fell 69-65 at the University of West Florida in Gulf South Conference action. MC moves to 8-6 on the season and 5-5 in conference play. UWF improved to 13-3 and 8-2 in the league.

Ashley Minor andÂ
Olivia Mabry led MC in scoring. Minor posted a team-best 18 points while Mabry added 15 points. The point is the 10th double-digit game for Minor this season while Mabry has scored in double figures six times.

Kelley Allen totaled nine points and a team-leading eight rebounds to come up shy of her fourth double-double of the season.

Mississippi College posted an 85.7 clip from the free throw line in the setback. The mark sits second-best this season for the Navy and Gold behind 90.3 percent at Shorter earlier this season.

Mississippi College shot 41.2 percent from the field for the game, despite connecting on 48.6 percent in the first half. West Florida hit 42.9 from the floor led by 51.6 percent in the first half.

West Florida's bench produced 22 of its 69 points. The Argos' reserves outscored the Lady Choctaws' bench by 12 points in the contest.

MC held a seven-point advantage in points off turnovers. The Navy and Gold turned the Argos' 19 errors into 23 points in the game.

Shami Goodman paced the Argos with 18 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Mississippi College took a 41-38 lead in at the intermission, but saw West Florida take the lead following the third quarter. UWF outscored the Lady Choctaws 18-10 in the third period to claim a 56-41 heading into the final period.

The two squads stood tied at 21-all following the first 10 minutes of play, but the Navy and Gold sought to take control of the contest in the second quarter as MC grabbed its largest lead of the game 36-27 with four minutes left before the half on a Minor layup.

The Argos opened the second half on an 11-8 run to knot the contest at 49-all and closed the quarter on a 7-2 run to hold the advantage.

MC erased the deficit with just over six minutes left to play and held a 62-58 lead, but again a scoring spurt for West Florida erased the advantage and deadlocked the game at 62-all. A trio of free throws for the Argos placed them up three points and they never trailed the remainder of the contest.

Mississippi College returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 21 as it travels to Valdosta, Ga. Tip-off at Valdosta State is scheduled for 1 p.m. central.
