CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team could not overcome a 1-for-14 (7%) night from behind the three-point line in an 80-70 loss to #21 Alabama Huntsville on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Choctaws (4-8, 1-7 GSC) scored the first four points of the game as senior
Byron McCall tipped in a missed shot and converted a layup on an assist from senior
DeOndre Haynes just over a minute into the game.
- The Chargers (11-3, 7-1 GSC) would fall behind 6-4 but go on a 10-0 run to take a 14-6 lead with 13:17 remaining in the first half on a three-pointer by Justin Ward.
- UAH would extend the lead to as many as 15 in the first half, and a three-pointer by Troy Saxton as the halftime buzzer sounded made the score 41-26 at the break.
- Chayse Elliott would convert a three-point play for the Chargers with 14:07 remaining, giving them their largest lead of the night at 51-34.
- The Choctaws would go on a 7-0 run in the final five minutes of the game, capped by a dunk from junior
Stacey Mack on an assist from Haynes and get the lead down to 69-62 with 3:12 remaining.
- MC would get no closer as UAH held off the late charge to get their sixth straight victory.
KEY STATS
- The Choctaws shot 26-of-61 (43%) from the field but were only 1-of-14 from the three-point line. They also went 17-of-26 (65%) from the free throw line, including going 10 of their last 12.
- The Chargers 10-of-25 (40%) from the three-point line, including 9-of-17 in the first half. They also went 22-of-24 (92%) from the charity stripe on the night.
- MC outrebounded the Chargers, 39-31, including 15-7 on the offensive glass, leading to 16 second-chance points.
- The Chargers' bench outscored MC's 39-18 and had 10 fast-break points to just two for the Choctaws.
- Haynes led the Choctaws with 18 points, going 7-of-15 from the field and 1-of-5 from the three-point line, his first make from long range as a Choctaw.
- Junior
Antonio Johnson added 13 points and four rebounds, while Mack had 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
- Justin Ward led all scorers with 19 points for UAH, scoring 17 in the first half on 5-of-6 shooting from long range.
- Elliott (14), Brandon Roberts (13) and Kip Owens (12) also scored in double-figures for UAH, while Owens had a team-high six rebounds.
GAME NOTES
- Haynes' three-pointer with 8:44 remaining in the first half gave the Choctaws their 494th straight game with a long ball, dating back to March 5, 1998.
- The Choctaws are now 6-4 all-time against the Chargers with UAH holding a 3-2 edge in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
- The Chargers have now won four straight against MC with the Choctaws' last win coming in Huntsville on January 3, 2015.

- The Choctaws will close out a four-game homestand on Saturday when they host North Alabama at 4:00 p.m. in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
