Volleyball Blanks Mississippi Valley State; First Win over MVSU in Series

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team picked up its first win in series history over Mississippi Valley State with a 3-0 victory over the Delta Devilettes. MC improved to 2-1 on the season while MVSU falls to 1-4.

"Tonight was a collection of all we've been working on over the past few weeks. It was a team effort between defense and offense and it was a great show to watch," said head coach Julie Redus. "Our right side hitters worked hard to find the floor and our blockers were consistently moving around to anticipate what was coming next and gave us a couple key points at the net. We were the team who adjusted the quickest each set. We served aggressively and utilized our strengths to fill the gaps and to close the door."

Jenna Campbell paced the Lady Choctaws with 10 kills – one off her season-best from last weekend against William Carey. Bailee Berringer dished out a team and season-best 18 assists while Sydney Chandler added 10 assists.

On the defensive end, Madison Kimes protected the back line with 13 digs while Kayana Mitchell compiled seven blocks – a season-best and one shy of tying her career-best.

MC jumped out to an early two sets lead turning back the Red and Green 25-20 and 27-25. The Lady Choctaws dominated the final set 25-14 after holding a commanding 20-10 early in the set.

Illiya Trahan paced MVSU with eight kills. Brooklyn Hudson recorded 15 assists while Sydney Robinson tallied 13 digs.

Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Sept. 9 as it hosts Williams Baptist at 3 p.m. The Lady Choctaws follow with a 7 p.m. match against Lyon College.
