Lady Choctaws Play to 2-2 draw Against Union

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Union University on Friday. The tie brings the Lady Choctaws record to 4-2-1, and 1-0-1 in GSC play.
 
Lauren Kate Carter and Samantha Carson led the attack for the Lady Choctaws, both scoring a goal in the contest. Kyra Montes finished with the lone assist on the afternoon.
 
The Lady Choctaws outshot the Bulldogs 21-9 in the contest. The Lady Choctaws accounted for eight shots in the first half, ten shots in the second half, one shot in the first overtime period, and two shots in OT period number two. MC put up 10 shots on frame, compared to Union's five.
 
Samantha Carson got the Lady Choctaws on the board first, when she booted in her second goal of the season in the 10th minute.  Both Defenses would hold steady, as neither team was able to score for the rest of period number one.
 
Olivia Schmitke scored the equalizer for Union in the 73rd minute. Carter put MC back on top in the 82nd minute when Montes helped set up her first goal as a Lady Choctaw. In the 87th minute, Union evened things back up when Summer Senn found the back of the net. Two ten-minute overtime were played after regulation, with neither team able to record a goal; giving way to the 2-2 draw.
 
In Goal, Andrea McDonald recorded three saves on five opportunities. The sophomore goalie saw action in all 110 minutes of play.
 
Caitlin Hayes led the Lady Choctaws with four shots taken on the afternoon, with one of those being on frame.  Carter and Lauren Smith both took three shots apiece, with two shots on goal.  Montes and Katie Taylor took two shots for the Lady Choctaws. Madison Leonard, Meghan Mauzy and Emma Claire Furman all recorded a shot on goal. Gaylynn Cooper, Amanda Byrd and Hannah Bailey also took a shot for MC.
 
MC took eight corners in the match, to Unions three.  Of the six offside infractions in total, MC was tagged for only two of them.
 
The Lady will hit the road and square off against Christian Brothers University on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn. Match time is slated for 1:00 p.m.
