Delgado’s Second Hat Trick of Season Propels Choctaws over Argonauts

CLINTON, Miss. --- Senior midfielder Jorge Delgado headed in the game-winning golden goal in overtime  to record his second hat trick of the season, and lift the Mississippi College men's soccer team over the Argonauts of the University of West Florida on Friday afternoon.

The dramatic overtime victory improves the Choctaws record t0 4-1-1 on the year, and 2-0 in GSC Play.

Delgado's three-goal performance led the Choctaws on offense, with Ben Roberts accounting for the other MC goal. Delgado boosted his season goal total to nine, which leads all players in the GSC. Jacob Farthing, Dinho Zwane and George Fradenburg all recorded assists on the afternoon.

Delgado got things going offensively for MC, when he scored his first goal of the day in the 9th minute. Farthing helped set up the score. The 1-0 score would hold steady all the way to halftime.

Joshua Sauer scored the equalizer for UWF in the 59th minute, when he took advantage of a stolen pass and found the back of the net. Chandler Castleman put the Argonauts up 2-1 in the 74th minute, with the help from Kameron Bethell. Delgado headed in the equalizer, his second of the match, in 80th minute. Trailing with six seconds left in regulation, Roberts fired a shot from the far center that found the top right corner of the net; sending the game into overtime.  Delgado's game-winner came in the 95th minute, when Fradenburg helped set up the score on a perfectly-placed ball.

Delgado's six shots and four shots on goal both were a team high for the contest. Roberts and Horacio Gutierrez Jr. both took two shots, with Roberts accounting for a shot on goal. Zwane, Farthing, Fradenburg and Eduardo Juarez all also took shots in the contest; with Juarez's and Fradenburg's being on frame.
