Second Half Scoring Frenzy Lifts Choctaws Over Pensacola Christian in Historic Fashion

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's soccer team used a second half offensive surge to cruise to an 11-1 victory over Pensacola Christian College on Tuesday afternoon, improving their record to 3-1-1 on the year. The Choctaws 11 goals scored marks the second time in school history that men's soccer has reached a score of double digits in a game, while also serving as the second highest goal total in a game in school history.

Overall, nine different Choctaws contributed to the scoring total in the contest. Victor Marinho led the charge offensively for MC, notching a team-high two goals on the afternoon. Jorge Delgado added his Gulf South Conference leading 6th goal, while Jacob Farthing recorded his third goal of the season; a total good enough for second on the team. Bastian Busch, Dylan Howard, Julio Moreno, Martin Cobb III, Joshua Robinson Jacob McNeely and Marinho each tallied their first goals of the season.

George Fradenburg accounted for a team-high three assists during the match. Moreno finished with two assists, and Farthing, Howard, Cobb, Graham Bobo, Morgan Roberson, Andrew Moore and Chase Tibbetts all added an assist.

Delgado got MC on the board first, when he fired a goal into the back of the net in the ninth minute. Farthing helped set up the score. Farthing would add the second and final goal of the first half in the 31st minute to give the Choctaws the 2-0 advantage heading into the half.

Busch helped set the tone early in the second half, when Fradenburg and Moreno helped set up his first goal of the season less than a minute into second-half play (45:50). Just minutes later, Bobo and Moreno would work together to assist Howard for a goal (50:45). Moreno, aided by Fradenburg, punched one in for a goal in minute number 58. Marinho recorded his first goal of the season, with help from Fradenburg and Howard in the 60th minute.  An own goal, followed by goals from Marinho, Cobb, Robinson, McNeely and PCC's Adrian Torres gave way to the final score of 11-1.

MC put up  33 shots on the historic afternoon, with 21 of those shots being on frame. The Choctaws distributed their shots to an even total, as they took 16 in the first half and 17 in the second. The Choctaws took nine corner kicks, and were tagged for four offside infractions.

In Goal, Hayden Mays recorded one save on two opportunities to earn his first victory as a Choctaw. The sophomore goalkeeper played between the posts for MC in all 90 minutes.

Up next for the Choctaws, they will play host to the University of West Florida on Friday in their second Gulf South Conference matchup of the season. Kickoff at Longabaugh Field is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start time.
