Volleyball Preview: Valdosta State

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 14 as the Lady Choctaws (6-2, 0-1 Gulf South Conference) host Valdosta State. Match time is set for 5 p.m.
 
MC looks to return to the win column after a valiant effort against Shorter, but was saddled with a 3-1 setback on Monday night that snapped a six-game win streak.
 
The Lady Choctaws seek their first win over their conference foe from the Peach State. Valdosta State leads the series 4-0 and posted a 3-0 victory over the Navy and Gold its last time in Clinton on Oct. 12 last season.
 
Jenna Campbell posted her fifth outing in double-digit kills as she tied a season-high with 12 kills. The League City, Texas, native has a team-leading 75 kills on the season which ranks sixth in the GSC. Bailee Berringer tied a season-high with 23 assists in the decision. The Dickinson, Texas, product leads the squad with 130 while Sydney Chandler, who is fifth all-time in assists with 954, sits second on the team with 126.
 
Madison Kimes and Kayana Mitchell lead the defensive effort for the Lady Choctaws. Kimes tallied a career-high 32 digs against Shorter and propelled her team-leading digs to 121 on the season. Mitchell helps set the wall at the net as she leads the team with 27 total blocks. The Southaven, Miss., native has 161 total blocks in her career – which ranks sixth in program history. Jamila Biglow sits second on the team in rejections with 21.
 
VSU enters the midweek contest sporting a 2-5 record. The Blazers dropped their last outing 3-1 against Lynn. Wednesday's affair marks the first, GSC contest for the Red and Black and the first of a three-game, conference road swing that includes a road swing to West Alabama and West Georgia over the weekend.
 
Susanna Peonia paces the Blazers' offensive attack with 105 kills while Carly Smart has dished out 161 assists on the campaign. Sydney Chick helps lead the defensive effort for VSU with 113 digs while Kayla Widera has a team-best 32 blocks.
 
Mississippi College returns to action on Friday, Sept. 16 as it begins the first of two, GSC road games against Union. MC wraps up the road swing against Christian Brothers on Saturday, Sept. 17. Match time at Union is set for 7 p.m. with the start time at CBU slotted for 1 p.m.
