FLORENCE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team fell to the Sharks of Nova Southeastern University 2-0 on Sunday in a neutral-site battle in Florence, Ala.

With the loss, the Lady's end up with a 1-1 record for the weekend, and a 2-2 record on their young season.

Both defenses kept the opposing offenses at bay in the first half, as neither team was able to get on the scoreboard. The Lady Choctaws outshot the Sharks 10-3 through the first 45 minutes, including two shots on goal.
Caitlin Hayes delivered a header in the 27
th minute that was denied by NSU goalkeeper Ida Norstrom, and
Madison Leonard fired a shot in the 39
th minute that yielded the same result.

Emma Heikkila broke the scoreless tie for NSU when she found the back of the net in the 69
th minute of play. Bailey Corbin helped set up the goal. Minutes later, Heikkila was once again able to strike pay dirt, as she knocked in her second goal of the game in the 72
nd minute; this time assisted by Tova Nilsson. Â
Katie Taylor and
Lauren Smith both put up shots in the second half for MC with trajectories towards the back of the net, but came up empty.

Hayes led the offensive charge for MC, as she put up four total shots with one on goal for the afternoon. Taylor finished with three shots and a shot on goal. Leonard and Smith both accounted for a shot on goal, with Leonard finishing with two shots in the contest.
Jess Davenport also added a shot for the Lady Choctaws.

Andrea McDonald recorded one save on the day for the Lady Choctaws.

NSU outshot MC 14-13 in the contest. The Lady Choctaws put up four shots on goal, to the Sharks three.

Both teams took three corner kicks in the game, While NSU committed six offside infractions to MC's two.
