CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's soccer team defeated Millsaps College 4-0 in their home opener on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Lady Choctaws improve to 3-2 on the season.

Jess Davenport led the charge offensively for the Lady Choctaws, scoring two goals on the afternoon; bringing her season total to a team-best five goals.
Hannah Bailey and
Daisy Rodgers each accounted for their first goals of the season.
Emma Claire Furman grabbed her first two assists of the year in the contest, with
Madison Leonard also contributing for her first assist of the year during the game.

Davenport was responsible for MC's lone goal in the first half when she found the back of the net in the 38
th minute to give the Lady Choctaws the 1-0 advantage. Leonard recorded the assist.

Bailey doubled the Lady Choctaw lead to 2-0 early in the second half, when she took a perfectly-placed ball from Furman and knocked in her first goal of her junior campaign in the 54
th minute. Less than a minute in regulation later, Davenport booted in her second goal of the match (55:14). Furman was once again the one who helped set up the score. Rodgers scored the Lady Choctaws' fourth and final goal in the 82
nd minute, giving way to the 4-0 finish.

In goal,
Gabby Kayser (1-0) picked up her first career win as a Lady Choctaw. The freshman goalkeeper played in 70 minutes during the contest. Senior
Melanie Hummert saw action in net for the Lady Choctaws during the last 20 minutes of the contest. Â Â

The Lady Choctaws took 33 shots in the match, with 17 shots on goal. Â
Lauren Smith tallied a team-high eight shots in the contest, with three on frame. Furman took five shots, with three on frame.
Lauren Kate Carter accounted for four shots and two shots on goal. Rodgers and Davenport both finished with three shots. Bailey,
Sara Hodges and
Amber Colvin all finished with two shots and a shot on frame.
Kyra Montes,
Gaylynn Cooper and
Madeline Porter all added a shot on goal.
Amanda Byrd also finished with a shot taken on the afternoon.

The Lady Choctaws took 13 corner kicks in the contest, to Millsaps two. MC committed five offside infractions, to Millsaps one.

A lightning delay in the 12
th minute of the game stopped play completely for just under an hour. Play was resumed however, and no further precautions were needed to be taken.

The Lady Choctaws return to action on Sunday, when they take on Delta State in their first Gulf South Conference game of the season. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. Â
