CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team closed out their home scheduled with a 7-2 win over rival Delta State on Tuesday afternoon at the MC Tennis Complex.
The Choctaws (11-8, 4-3 GSC) opened the day with dominant play in doubles action, taking a 3-0 lead over the Statesmen (4-10, 2-7 GSC).
Senior
Phillip Qu, playing in his final home match, teamed up with sophomore
Sanders Barrick to pick up the first point, taking the #3 doubles match, 8-3.

Lucio Menezes and freshman
Maximilian Nilges also cruised to an 8-3 victory, taking the #2 doubles decision. Sophomores
Marcos Rocca and
Petar Damjanovic closed out the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at #1.
In singles, MC needed little time to clinch the victory as Qu (#6) dropped just one game and Menezes (#2) lost just three games on the way to giving MC the 5-0 lead and a victory.
The Statesmen would get their first point of the day at the #1 singles position as Jeoffrey Noblecourt picked up a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Rocca.
The final three matches went to three sets as Nilges (#3) won the final set 6-2. Sophomore
Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez (#5) dropped the opening set but bounced back to drop just one game on the way to a comeback victory.
The Choctaws have two more matches in the regular season as they will travel to Huntsville, Ala. to face UAH (Apr. 9) and Lee (Apr. 10). With one victory in the two matches, MC will clinch a trip to the NCCAA MidEast Regional.
