HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Mississippi College men's tennis team won their final three matches to close the season, including a 5-3 victory over Lee University on Sunday afternoon at the Chargers Tennis Courts.
The match was made up at the University of Alabama in Huntsville after it was postponed due to rain on March 20th in Cleveland, Tenn.
The Choctaws (13-8, 6-3 GSC) opened the week with a 7-2 win over rival Delta State on Tuesday. They closed things out with wins over UAH and the Flames (12-10, 3-6 GSC) over the weekend.
Things started slowly as Lee grabbed a 2-1 lead through doubles action with senior
Phillip Qu and sophomore
Sanders Barrick winning 8-4 at #3.
Needing four singles wins to get the comeback victory, sophomores
Lucio Menezes (#2) and
Petar Damjanovic (#4) got things started with straight-set victories.
Sophomore
Marcos Rocca (#1) needed three sets, but grabbed a 6-4 victory in the final stanza to give MC a 4-3 advantage.
Sophomore
Jose Rodrigo Gonzalez (#5) clinched the victory with a three-set win, taking the final set 6-3.
The Choctaws have qualified for the National Christian College Athletic Association MidEast Regional and finished 4th in the Gulf South Conference standings.
