CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team saw a second-half comeback fall just short in an 80-75 loss to West Florida on Saturday afternoon in A.E. Wood Coliseum.
The Choctaws (6-13, 5-12 GSC) trailed 46-30 at halftime, thanks in large part to the outstanding shooting from the Argonauts (4-16, 3-14 GSC), who went 10-of-17 (59%) from the three-point line in the first half.
By the first media timeout, MC had cut the lead to 52-43, and they trailed just 65-60 witih 4:37 remaining when senior
Tristan Moore took a turnover coast-to-coast for a layup.
The Choctaws trailed 71-67 with 1:34 remaining before senior
Johnny Rucker made the first of two free throws, and senior
Jonathan McGee rebounded the second and his putback cut the lead to 71-70.
The Argos nailed another long ball as Mario Stramaglia, who was 6-of-9 from behind the arc, pushed the lead back out to 74-70 with under a minute to play.
With 15 seconds remaining, Moore with hit two free throws to cut the lead to 76-75, but after giving up a foul, he was given a technical and Stramaglia went to the line and made all four foul shots to put the game out of reach.
The Choctaws would go on to shoot 54% from the floor in the game, but 31 bench points from the Argos gave UWF their first road win of the season.
McGee scored 24 points and has now made five three-pointers in each of the last three games. Moore scored 15 with six assists, while Rucker had 11 and six steals.
Stramaglia led the Argo attack with 25 points, while Justin Williams scored 14 and Austin Somerfield had 12.
The Choctaws will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Florence to face North Alabama at 8:00 p.m.
