Women's Basketball Preview: West Florida

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team looks to snap a four-game skid as the Lady Choctaws host the University of West Florida on Saturday, Feb. 6. Tip is slated for 2 p.m.
 
MC VS. WEST FLORIDA
Saturday marks the sixth meeting between Mississippi College and West Florida with the Lady Choctaws holding a 3-2 advantage. MC is 2-0 in Clinton vs. the Argos, but is 1-2 in Pensacola following back-to-back setbacks, including a 77-58 decision earlier this season. The Lady Choctaws last win the series came on Dec. 18, 2014 with a 56-55 win in Clinton – the last time the two squads faced off at A.E. Wood Coliseum.
 
MC VS. THE SUNSHINE STATE
Mississippi College is 10-4 all-time against teams from the Sunshine State. The Lady Choctaws hold advantages over Florida (3-1), Florida Atlantic (1-0), Pensacola Christian (1-0) and South Florida (1-0) along with Saturday's opponent West Florida. The Lady Choctaws' series with Florida State is tied at one game each.
 
LONG RANGE DANGER
Kristen Sampson and Allie Hill have proven to be dangerous from behind the arc as the duo ranks in the top 10 in 3-point field percentage. Sampson is fourth all-time with a 37.0 clip from behind the arc in just two seasons with MC. The Jackson, Miss., native is seventh in 3-point field goals made with 57 and is seventh in attempts with 154.
 
Hill is seventh in program history shooting 34.5 percent from the 3-point line. The Plainfield, Ill., product is two 3-pointers made away from cracking the top 10 as she currently has 41.
 
LADY CHOCTAW LEADERS
A trio of Lady Choctaws have averaged double figures in scoring this season, led by Kristen Sampson's 15.1 points per game. The Jackson, Miss., native ranks among the top 50 scorers in program history with 604 points in her two seasons in Clinton.
 
Chloe Roberts and Carla Clemmons join the senior in double-digits as Roberts sits second on the team with 13.6 points per contest. The Reagan, Tenn., product has started all 19 games in her MC debut which is shared by only Sampson. Clemmons rounds out the trio with 12.4 points per game. The Rome, Ga., native also provides a presence on the glass where she ranks second on the team with 6.3 boards per outing.
 
Toni Woods paces the Navy and Gold in rebounds. The Lafayette, La., junior is averaging 7.3 boards and has a team-best five double figure efforts this season, including a season-high 15.
 
BREAKING DOWN WEST FLORIDA
The Argonauts sit 13-7 and 11-5 in the Gulf South Conference following a 64-58 upset at No. 22 Delta State on Thursday evening. UWF currently sits tied for fourth in the conference standings with Shorter University. The Argos are boast the GSC's leader in assists in Alex Coyne, who averages 6.9 per game. Katie Bobos paces the Blue and Green offensively with 13.5 points per game. Toni Brewer and Coyne sit second and third in scoring with 11.6 and 10.7 points per game respectively. Brewer also leads the team in rebounds with 8.3 per contest.
