CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College softball team swept Millsaps in the doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at the MC Softball Complex.
The Lady Choctaws (8-8-) came from behind in the opener to pick up a 6-2 win over the Majors (6-4). MC clinched the doubleheader in six innings of the second game with a 11-3 win.
In the first game, the Majors took the lead in the top of the second as Rayne Gravat singled up the middle bringing two runners on base home.
The Lady Choctaws came right back in the fourth scoring Alexia Harmen on a single up the middle by
Cheyenne Mathews.
Mikayla Carruth then brouoght home
Kimmie Conley on a sacriifice fly.
The Lady Choctaws sustained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when
Megan Everett singled down the right field line driving
Lauren Mulligan and
Haley Thompson home.
Carlie Sargent (3-3) pitched a complete game, allowing just one hit and recording a season-high of nine strikeouts in the opener.
In the night cap, the Lady Choctaws got on the board early scoring three runs in the bottom of the first when Matthews homered over the left field fence to bring home Everett and
Katherine Lee.
With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Choctaws scored four runs. Matthews got on base with a double to left field. Conley singled to right field bringing pinch runner
Samantha Lee home . With bases loaded, Everett doubled to left field driving home Mulligan and Conley.
Everett had five hits, six RBI's and two runs in the doubleheader. Matthews had three hits, four RBI's and one run in the series.
Penny Nichols (4-4) pitched 6.0 innings, scattering five hits with one strikeout in the second game.
The Lady Choctaws will be back in action on Saturday when they will host West Alabama for a double header at 2:00 p.m. The Lady Choctaws will then play a single game to finish the series on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
