CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College baseball team dropped a doubleheader on Saturday to the University of West Florida to fall 2-1 in the series. UWF (5-5, 2-1 Gulf South Conference) clinched the series with an 8-1 victory in the second outing after claiming the first contest 22-2. MC falls to 6-4 on the season and 1-2 in conference action.
Will Elliott and
Logan Ferrell each logged a combined two hits in the twinbill. Elliott posted a .500 batting average at the dish to lead all hitters. The Argos' pitching staff limited the Navy and Gold to just 11 hits on the day, including just three going for extra bases – all doubles – belonging to Elliott, Ferrell and
Hunter Bolin.
West Florida pounded out a combined 33 hits on the day as the Blue and Green posted a .452 batting average against the Choctaw hurlers.
Blaine Crim and
Tommy Taborda took the losses on the bump. Crim (2-2) tossed 4.2 frames in his start allowing eight runs on 12 hits with a pair of strikeouts and walks. Taborda (0-2) tossed 2.0 innings allowing five runs on five hits with a strikeout and two walks.
MC logged its two runs in the first game in the third inning as Ferrell singled to score
Chance Whitten and
Toler Robinson crossed the dish on an error. The lone run in the second contest came as Bolin doubled to left field to plate Elliott.
Mississippi College returns to action on Tuesday, Feb. 23 as it travels to Monticello, Ark., to face the University of Arkansas at Monticello. The midweek contest is slated for 2 p.m.
