Women's Basketball Preview: Shorter

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Saturday, Feb. 20 as the Lady Choctaws host Shorter University. Tip is set for 2 p.m.
 
Saturday marks the fourth meeting between Mississippi College and Shorter University. Shorter leads the series 2-1 after winning earlier this season at home with a 65-55 win. Both teams have held serve on their home floor in the series.
 
MC looks to snap an eight-game skid on Saturday after falling 73-60 against Lee on Thursday evening. Shorter fell 49-38 at Delta State on Thursday, which snapped a five-game win streak for the Blue and White.
 
With a total of three blocks against Lee, junior Carla Clemmons has made her mark in category among single season leaders and now among the program's all-time leaders. The Rome, Ga., native has 45 blocks this season which ranks second in a single-season, but now stands eighth in career blocks. Clemmons, who ranks third in scoring this season with 12.7 points per game, finished with 11 points against Flames. 
 
Kristen Sampson and Allie Hill have proven to be dangerous from behind the arc as the duo ranks in the top 10 in 3-point field percentage. Sampson is fourth all-time with a 37.1 clip from behind the arc in just two seasons with MC. The Jackson, Miss., native is fifth in 3-point field goals made with 63 and is seventh in attempts with 170. The senior, who leads the team in scoring with 14.8 points per contest this season and leads the team in assists with 3.2 per outing, is fifth in 3-pointers made in a single-season with 34 and seventh in attempts with 98 during the campaign.
 
Hill, who is second in assists this season with 2.7 per game, is seventh in program history shooting 34.3 percent from the 3-point line. The Plainfield, Ill., product is ninth in 3-pointers made with 46.
 
The Lady Choctaws' second leading scorer this season, Chloe Roberts, ranks ninth in 3-pointers made in a single-season with 30 in her first season with the team. The Reagan, Tenn., native is third in attempts with 105.
 
Shorter is led by Taylor Adams, who averages 15.9 points and 10.5 rebounds this season. Adams is the only player in the Gulf South Conference to average a double-double this season. Shakierya McClendon also averages double figures for the Blue and White with 10.6 points.
 
Mississippi College hosts in-state rival Delta State University on Thursday, Feb. 25 in the final contest of the year. Tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
