Flames' Late Run Enough to Take Down Choctaws, 87-78

CLINTON, Miss. --- The Mississippi College men's basketball team fell victim to a 20-3 run over the five minutes in an 87-78 loss to Lee University on Thursday night in A.E. Wood Coliseum.

In a game that saw five ties and 14 lead changes, the Choctaws (7-15, 6-14 GSC) grabbed a 75-67 lead, their largest of the game, when sophomore Stacey Mack nailed two free throws with 4:44 remaining.

Mack led the Choctaws with a season-high 21 points to go along with nine rebounds, shooting 8-of-16 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The McComb native scored a career-high 23 points last February against UAH.

The Flames would scored 13 straight points, taking an 80-75 lead, before senior Jonathan McGee nailed a three-pointer to cut the score to a one-possession game.

Lee would score the final seven points of the game to get their first-ever win in Clinton.

Every Choctaw that saw action scored at least three points with junior DeOndre Haynes putting up 13 with a season-high nine rebounds to go with a team-high five assists. On the night, MC had 16 helpers on 27 field goals.

The Choctaws shot just 39% from the floor, including going 1-for-9 from the field over the last five minutes. MC was 18-of-24 (75%) from the foul line but just 6-of-26 (23%) from behind the arc.

Keevin Tyus came off the bench for Lee to score a game-high 29 points, 21 of which came in the first half. He tallied a double-double with 11 rebounds. Stephan Burrows had 16 points with seven assists and eight boards for the Flames.

The Choctaws will be back at home this Saturday when they will host Shorter at 4:00 p.m. in the "Golden Dome".
